Deborah Alcozer | Principal
I am a Plainview High School graduate and I received my Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from Wayland Baptist University in 2007. I completed my Master of Education in 2016, also from Wayland. I started teaching at Thunderbird Elementary in 2008 and remained there for four years. I then moved to Edgemere Elementary where I taught for one year before joining the Curriculum and Instruction team as the Special Programs Instructional Coordinator. In that role, I assisted in serving our district’s English Learners and Migrant students across all grade levels, PK-12th, for 5+ years. Prior to coming over to Highland, I served as Edgemere’s assistant principal. My husband, Tommy, and I are the proud parents of 3 children who also attend Plainview schools.
I’ve already been able to share with many of you that I was a former Highland teacher’s daughter. My mom is now retired, but she dedicated over four decades to teaching and 33 of those years were spent at Highland. I am also proud to share that I am Highland alum! I spent 1st grade through 4th grade here as a student – and there is one teacher amongst the current staff who I am very honored to have had as my 1st grade teacher. During my college years, I also student taught in this building with my former 2nd grade teacher.
I vividly remember sitting in these classrooms. I remember the way the light shone through the windows on both levels. I remember the creaks of the aged wood in the floor. It is so good to be back in the very place that I consider home! I had a great foundation of learning here. I know that others have had that as well. Our current students are well on their way to reaching high levels of growth and academics with our excellent staff members. I am beyond eager to continue work alongside with our exceptional Highland families, students and staff!
