• Julio DeLaGarza | Chief of Police


    Julio De La Garza was born in Littlefield, Texas, and raised in the small-town of Earth, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Wayland Baptist University. De La Garza holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, Mental Health Officer Certification, and numerous hours of training in School Base Law Enforcement.
    De La Garza has a diverse career including 18 years with Wal-Mart Distribution Center as area Manager as well as a short stint (3 years) with a State license in the Insurance business. De La Garza was with the Plainview Police Department for 9 years and currently with the Plainview ISD Police Department.
    During his time with the Plainview Police Department, De La Garza served as a Field Training Officer, was active on the Crisis Response Team as a Hostage Negotiator, and assigned the last 7 years as a School Resource Officer for the Plainview Independent School District. Last July, De La Garza came aboard with Plainview Independent School District as the Lieutenant for the Plainview ISD Police Department. De La Garza has been an instrumental player with the establishment of the Plainview ISD Police Department.
    Julio De La Garza is passionate and involved in the Plainview community by building relationships with our students, parents, and community members. De La Garza believes that a united community is built upon community policing and building relationships. In 2014, during his time with the City of Plainview Police Department, Cops & Kids was started from a conversation. The program grew and within the second year of existence, the City of Plainview and Police Department received the Public Municipal Excellence Award in Public Safety for cities with 25,000 population and under. In 2016, Julio De La Garza received the Plainview A.L.A.S. award for the contribution in the field of law.
    Bridging the gap between law enforcement, the youth of our community, and Plainview ISD School district has always being a top priority for De La Garza. The PISD Police Department will continue to work hard to provide a safe and secure learning environment.
